Opening Verse:
“The Son radiates God’s own glory and expresses the very character of God, and he sustains everything by the mighty power of his command. When he had cleansed us from our sins, he sat down in the place of honor at the right hand of the majestic God in heaven.”
Hebrews 1:3 NLT

Introduction:
Welcome to another exciting Sunday here at The River of Faith Church! Today we are in week four and conclusion of our new series I entitled “King of Glory.”

In this series we will study about the meaning of the word “glory” as it pertains to God. The goal of this series is for us to be made aware of the beauty and majesty of God and have the full understanding of why everything that we do is for His glory. The Hebrew word translated “glory” is kabod, which means “weight,” but it is used figuratively, as in “his argument carries weight” or “the content of that book is weighty.” Kabad carries a connotation of solemnity, power, honor, and splendor. The Greek word in New Testament is “doxa” which means honor, renown; glory, an especially divine quality, the unspoken manifestation of God, splendor.

Main Pointers:
“The old system under the law of Moses was only a shadow, a dim preview of the good things to come, not the good things themselves. The sacrifices under that system were repeated again and again, year after year, but they were never able to provide perfect cleansing for those who came to worship. If they could have provided perfect cleansing, the sacrifices would have stopped, for the worshipers would have been purified once for all time, and their feelings of guilt would have disappeared. But instead, those sacrifices actually reminded them of their sins year after year. For it is not possible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.”
Hebrews 10:1-4 NLT

1. Jesus is supreme over all.

A. The main point of the author of Hebrews here was to point out that if it wasn’t for Jesus’ sacrifice we will all be stuck in making sacrifices of our own year after year with the same results.
B. It was clear that man-made sacrifices and blood of animals were never meant to be the supreme sacrifice to rid us of all shame and guilt. Only the blood of the Lamb of God can do it.
C. “While Jesus was here on earth, he offered prayers and pleadings, with a loud cry and tears, to the one who could rescue him from death. And God heard his prayers because of his deep reverence for God. Even though Jesus was God’s Son, he learned obedience from the things he suffered. In this way, God qualified him as a perfect High Priest, and he became the source of eternal salvation for all those who obey him."
Hebrews 5:7-9 NLT

2. Jesus’ sacrifice was sufficient to erase all of our sins once and for all.

“That is why, when Christ came into the world, he said to God, “You did not want animal sacrifices or sin offerings. But you have given me a body to offer. You were not pleased with burnt offerings or other offerings for sin. Then I said, ‘Look, I have come to do your will, O God—as is written about me in the Scriptures.’” First, Christ said, “You did not want animal sacrifices or sin offerings or burnt offerings or other offerings for sin, nor were you pleased with them” (though they are required by the law of Moses). Then he said, “Look, I have come to do your will.” He cancels the first covenant in order to put the second into effect. For God’s will was for us to be made holy by the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ, once for all time.”
Hebrews 10:5-10 NLT

A. The purpose of the sacrifices made in the Old Testament was to be made aware of the seriousness of their sins before God. The blood of the animals only covered their sins for the meantime that’s why they have to do it over and over again.
B. When Jesus came the old covenant was replaced with the new. What used to be “again and again” was now replaced by forgiveness “once and for all.”
C. “For God, who said, “Let there be light in the darkness,” has made this light shine in our hearts so we could know the glory of God that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ. We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves.”
2 Corinthians 4:6-7 NLT

3. Because of Jesus there is no need to make sacrifices over and over again.

“Under the old covenant, the priest stands and ministers before the altar day after day, offering the same sacrifices again and again, which can never take away sins. But our High Priest offered himself to God as a single sacrifice for sins, good for all time. Then he sat down in the place of honor at God’s right hand. There he waits until his enemies are humbled and made a footstool under his feet. For by that one offering he forever made perfect those who are being made holy. And the Holy Spirit also testifies that this is so. For he says, “This is the new covenant I will make with my people on that day, says the Lord: I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds.” Then he says, “I will never again remember their sins and lawless deeds.” And when sins have been forgiven, there is no need to offer any more sacrifices.”
Hebrews 10:11-18 NLT

A. The emphasis here now is the new covenant in Christ Jesus. There is no need to make sacrifices over and over again because of the sufficiency of Christ’s blood on the cross.
B. “Under the old system, the high priest brought the blood of animals into the Holy Place as a sacrifice for sin, and the bodies of the animals were burned outside the camp. So also Jesus suffered and died outside the city gates to make his people holy by means of his own blood. So let us go out to him, outside the camp, and bear the disgrace he bore. For this world is not our permanent home; we are looking forward to a home yet to come.” Hebrews 13:11-14 NLT

Conclusion:
What glory do we have that can even be compared to the glory of God? Why do we seek glory for ourselves? Man’s glory withers and dries. It fades away quickly than anything else we can ever imagine. God’s glory is eternal and it never ceases. It emanates from His character it comes from all that He is. His glory radiates to His one and only begotten Son. Jesus came to show to us the glory of the Father. He did it not out of splendor and richness but out of His own suffering as the Lamb of God who took away the sins of the world. He is now seated at the right hand of the Father with all His glory and glory to come when He returns again! Hail King Jesus!!!!
