Introduction:
Welcome to another exciting Sunday here at The River of Faith Church! Today we are starting a new series I entitled “King of Glory.”

In this series we will study about the meaning of the word “glory” as it pertains to God. The goal of this series is for us to be made aware of the beauty and majesty of God and have the full understanding of why everything that we do is for His glory.

The Hebrew word translated “glory” is kabod, which means “weight”, but it is used figuratively, as in “his argument carries weight” or “the content of that book is weighty”. Kabad carries a connotation of solemnity, power, honor, and splendor. The Greek word in New Testament is “doxa” which means honor, renown; glory, an especially divine quality, the unspoken manifestation of God, splendor.

Main Pointers:
“The Lord said to Moses, “Get going, you and the people you brought up from the land of Egypt. Go up to the land I swore to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. I told them, ‘I will give this land to your descendants.’ And I will send an angel before you to drive out the Canaanites, Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites. Go up to this land that flows with milk and honey. But I will not travel among you, for you are a stubborn and rebellious people. If I did, I would surely destroy you along the way.” When the people heard these stern words, they went into mourning and stopped wearing their jewelry and fine clothes. For the Lord had told Moses to tell them, “You are a stubborn and rebellious people. If I were to travel with you for even a moment, I would destroy you. Remove your jewelry and fine clothes while I decide what to do with you.” So from the time they left Mount Sinai, the Israelites wore no more jewelry or fine clothes. It was Moses’ practice to take the Tent of Meeting and set it up some distance from the camp. Everyone who wanted to make a request of the Lord would go to the Tent of Meeting outside the camp. Whenever Moses went out to the Tent of Meeting, all the people would get up and stand in the entrances of their own tents. They would all watch Moses until he disappeared inside. As he went into the tent, the pillar of cloud would come down and hover at its entrance while the Lord spoke with Moses. When the people saw the cloud standing at the entrance of the tent, they would stand and bow down in front of their own tents. Inside the Tent of Meeting, the Lord would speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend. Afterward Moses would return to the camp, but the young man who assisted him, Joshua son of Nun, would remain behind in the Tent of Meeting.” Exodus 33:1-11 NLT

1. Despite of the people’s stubbornness God continued to display His glory and intimacy with Moses.

A. This took place just after the people worshipped the Golden Calf while Moses was with God at Mount Sinai. The people displayed their rebelliousness and stubborn hearts even after God rescued them from Egypt.
B. Nevertheless the pillar of cloud and of fire that guided them through their journey have remained with them and God’s involvement with His people despite of their actions have never ceased. Moses’ relationship with God was so intimate that He could talk to Him with much openness.

2. The glory of God is the full display of His beauty not material but from all of His attributes.

“One day Moses said to the Lord, “You have been telling me, ‘Take these people up to the Promised Land.’ But you haven’t told me whom you will send with me.You have told me, ‘I know you by name, and I look favorably on you.’ If it is true that you look favorably on me, let me know your ways so I may understand you more fully and continue to enjoy your favor. And remember that this nation is your very own people.” The Lord replied, “I will personally go with you, Moses, and I will give you rest—everything will be fine for you.” Then Moses said, “If you don’t personally go with us, don’t make us leave this place. How
will anyone know that you look favorably on me—on me and on your people—if you don’t go with us? For your presence among us sets your people and me apart from all other people on the earth.” The Lord replied to Moses, “I will indeed do what you have asked, for I look favorably on you, and I know you by name.” Moses responded, “Then show me your glorious presence.” Exodus 33:12-18 NLT

A. Here we can see clearly why Moses was chosen by God. Moses genuinely cared about the people and He was completely reliant on God. Knowing that without His presence they do not stand a chance. He knew God chose them to be a nation for Himself unlike any other nations.
B. Moses demonstrated a very intimate relationship with God. He then asked God for a very personal request. “Then show me your glorious presence.”
C. “Shekinah” glory is a concept of God’s divine visitation of His presence on earth. The word itself is not mentioned in the Bible but it was coined by Jewish Rabbis to express this idea.

3. God’s glory is too awesome and powerful for human eyes to see.

“The Lord replied, “I will make all my goodness pass before you, and I will call out my name, Yahweh, before you. For I will show mercy to anyone I choose, and I will show compassion to anyone I choose. But you may not look directly at my face, for no one may see me and live.” The Lord continued, “Look, stand near me on this rock. As my glorious presence passes by, I will hide you in the crevice of the rock and cover you with my hand until I have passed by. Then I will remove my hand and let you see me from behind. But my face will not be seen.”" Exodus 33:19-23 NLT

A. God fulfilled Moses’ request by allowing him to have a deeper vision of His glory. God had somewhat muted His glory and hid Moses in the rock not permitting Him to see His face but only His back.
B. This indicated that truly there is no man that can fully understand even withstand the awesome power and glory of God without being completely overwhelmed. That’s why Moses was not permitted to fully see God.
C. “Attending him were mighty seraphim, each having six wings. With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they flew. They were calling out to each other, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of Heaven’s Armies! The whole earth is filled with his glory!” Isaiah 6:2-3 NLT

Conclusion:
What glory do we have that can even be compared to the glory of God? Why do we seek glory for ourselves? Man’s glory withers and dries. It fades away quickly than anything else we can ever imagine. God’s glory is eternal and it never ceases. It emanates from His character it comes from all that He is.
