“For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin".
 Hebrews 4:15 NIV

Introduction:
Welcome to an amazing Sunday here at River of Faith! We are in week four and conclusion of our series "Mr. Lonely " a biblical survey on the topic of loneliness.

t's obvious that all of us have experienced some kind of loneliness in our lives. Even if the Bible does not  talk about it by name, it is evident that the Scriptures expresses the feelings of sadness, despair, and sorrow even in the lives of God's people. Remember it is not a sin to feel lonely.

Loneliness is a state of mind caused by a strong feeling of isolation or separation. Being lonely is not the same as being alone or vice versa. You can be alone and not feel lonely or you can be lonely even if your are not alone.
Part 3 is about giving in to the feeling of being alone.

"Sympathy" can be defined as the ability to feel pity or sorrow for someone else's misfortune. While "empathy" is the ability to understand and share the feelings of another.

Main Pointers:

“Who has believed our message? To whom has the Lord revealed his powerful arm? My servant grew up in the Lord’s presence like a tender green shoot, like a root in dry ground. There was nothing beautiful or majestic about his appearance, nothing to attract us to him. He was despised and rejected— a man of sorrows, acquainted with deepest grief. We turned our backs on him and looked the other way. He was despised, and we did not care.” Isaiah 53:1-3 NLT

1. Jesus is our sympathizer.

Isaiah 53 is one of the most profound Scriptures in the Old Testament that spoke vividly about the coming Messiah and all its descriptions matched what Jesus went through on the cross.

In our weakness and sorrow its is important to be reminded that God understands. Jesus unlike the other gods of pagan religion, Jesus is relational.

“When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come along with her also weeping, he was deeply moved in spirit and troubled. “Where have you laid him?” he asked. “Come and see, Lord,” they replied. Jesus wept. John 11:33-35 NIV

2. Jesus is for us not against us.

“Yet it was our weaknesses he carried; it was our sorrows that weighed him down. And we thought his troubles were a punishment from God, a punishment for his own sins! But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed. All of us, like sheep, have strayed away. We have left God’s paths to follow our own. Yet the Lord laid on him the sins of us all.” Isaiah 53:4-6 NLT

Jesus took our place! It was our weaknesses and sorrows that He carried. He had no sin but he became sin for us. He is for us!

“What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us?”Romans 8:31 NLT

3. Jesus was a man of many sorrows.

“He was oppressed and treated harshly, yet he never said a word. He was led like a lamb to the slaughter. And as a sheep is silent before the shearers, he did not open his mouth. Unjustly condemned, he was led away. No one cared that he died without descendants, that his life was cut short in midstream. But he was struck down for the rebellion of my people. He had done no wrong and had never deceived anyone. But he was buried like a criminal; he was put in a rich man’s grave. But it was the Lord’s good plan to crush him and cause him grief. Yet when his life is made an offering for sin, he will have many descendants. He will enjoy a long life, and the Lord’s good plan will prosper in his hands. When he sees all that is accomplished by his anguish, he will be satisfied. And because of his experience, my righteous servant will make it possible for many to be counted righteous, for he will bear all their sins. I will give him the honors of a victorious soldier, because he exposed himself to death. He was counted among the rebels. He bore the sins of many and interceded for rebels.”  Isaiah 53:7-12 NLT

Do we feel sometimes that life is unfair? Yes absolutely because it is! Jesus was treated unfairly in every way. That's why he came to us not to punish us but to save us!

“Bless those who persecute you. Don’t curse them; pray that God will bless them. Be happy with those who are happy, and weep with those who weep.” Romans 12:14-15 NLT

Conclusion:

When we feel troubled and depressed be reminded that Jesus experienced it all! He was betrayed by those closest to him. He unfairly treated and judged by the things He did not commit. Yet he bore our sins upon His shoulders. He carried the cross for us. He died so we can leave. He fought the good fight so we can be victorious!!! We are victorious. You are victorious!!!! You're not alone!
