Part 1: "It's Sufficient" - 2 Corinthians 12

Opening Verse:
“And since it is through God’s kindness, then it is not by their good works. For in that case, God’s grace would not be what it really is—free and undeserved."
Romans 11:6 NLT

Introduction:
Welcome to an amazing Sunday here at River of Faith! We are Starting a brand new series today I entitled "His Daily Sufficient Grace". In this series we will learn about the true meaning of living by God's grace. We will see how big and how wide the mercies of God for us and how much we don't deserve the love and forgiveness that Christ gave us! The word "grace" comes from the greek word "charis" which means "favor, blessing, or kindness." We can be a source of grace to others but when it is talked about in the context of God it is incomparable. God's grace is God choosing to bless us even when we are sinners. His grace is undeserved and sufficient in our daily needs.

Main Pointers:
“This boasting will do no good, but I must go on. I will reluctantly tell about visions and revelations from the Lord. I was caught up to the third heaven fourteen years ago. Whether I was in my body or out of my body, I don’t know—only God knows. Yes, only God knows whether I was in my body or outside my body. But I do know that I was caught up to paradise and heard things so astounding that they cannot be expressed in words, things no human is allowed to tell. That experience is worth boasting about, but I’m not going to do it. I will boast only about my weaknesses. If I wanted to boast, I would be no fool in doing so, because I would be telling the truth. But I won’t do it, because I don’t want anyone to give me credit beyond what they can see in my life or hear in my message, even though I have received such wonderful revelations from God. So to keep me from becoming proud, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger from Satan to torment me and keep me from becoming proud.”
2 Corinthians 12:1-7 NLT

1. God's grace is meant to keep us humble in our lives.

A. The experience that was given to the apostle Paul was quite unique and very remarkable. No one has ever gone to see the glory of the heavens and came back to tell the story.
B. We can see that Paul felt compelled to tell of this marvelous story but because of humility and understanding that he could not take credit for it he rather boast about his own weaknesses. If grace is not producing this kind of humility in your life as a Christian then you are not living by it.
C. “And he gives grace generously. As the Scriptures say, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you."
James 4:6-7 NLT

2. The realization of God's grace is the end of self pride.

“Three different times I begged the Lord to take it away. Each time he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me. That’s why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”
2 Corinthians12:8-10 NLT

A. Paul's perspective on weakness and trials can teach us a lot about trusting God. To Paul the thorn in the flesh that causes his suffering was not a punishment but a blessing from God.
B. How many of us actually think this way? Sometimes when we experience problems the first thing we do is to question God. Paul came to realization that not everything he ask will be given to him but the grace of God is sufficient in his life.
C. “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed.” Psalms 34:18 NLT

3. God is rich in mercy, just rely on His daily sufficient grace.

“That’s why I take pleasure in my. weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”
2 Corinthians 12:10 NLT

A. We will never understand the depth of God's love for us until we reach the point of our weakness. But in our weakness we can choose to accept that there are certain things that are not in our control. Nevertheless when we are weak that is when we are strong!
B. “My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. I do not treat the grace of God as meaningless. For if keeping the law could make us right with God, then there was no need for Christ to die.”
Galatians 2:20-21 NLT

Conclusion:

Grace is the end of ourselves. Once we realize how frail and how fragile we are and our own strength means nothing without the help of God. Like Paul we can come to realization that God's grace is sufficient in our daily lives. We learn to humble ourselves before him. Accept the things that are beyond our control but still remain thankful that at the end of the day God allows us to walk in the power of His daily sufficient grace!
