Opening Verse:

“For he issued his laws to Jacob; he gave his instructions to Israel. He commanded our ancestors to teach them to their children, so the next generation might know them— even the children not yet born— and they in turn will teach their own children.”
Psalms 78:5-6 NLT

Introduction:
Welcome to an amazing Sunday here at River of Faith! Today we are honoring our Moms and we want to recognize your special calling, and the hard work that you put-in in raising your families and honoring God first. Thank you.

What is the goal of my parenting/motherhood? This is a question that I often contemplate about ever since I became I parent almost 13 years ago. Many times we often cut and paste the answer to this question based on what's been taught to us. "Put the children to college and give them a good life!" There are many many good answers to this question but God had put a strong impression in my heart to not only think of my children's future but even to their children and their children after them. What I want to talk to you guys about today is how to become a generational mom.

Main Pointers:
“Timothy, I thank God for you—the God I serve with a clear conscience, just as my ancestors did. Night and day I constantly remember you in my prayers. I long to see you again, for I remember your tears as we parted. And I will be filled with joy when we are together again. I remember your genuine faith, for you share the faith that first filled your grandmother Lois and your mother, Eunice. And I know that same faith continues strong in you. This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you when I laid my hands on you. For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self- discipline.”
2 Timothy 1:3-7 NLT

1. Though faith in Christ is personal, your influence as a mother is crucial.

A. Paul had seen something special with Timothy. He took him under his wings and taught him everything about faith. One thing that Paul acknowledged was the crucial role of Timothy's grandmother and mother to his faith.
B. Take note, it wasn't just his mother but also his grandmother emphasizing the continuing Influence being passed on to the next generation.
C. “Don’t be concerned about the outward beauty of fancy hairstyles, expensive jewelry, or beautiful clothes. You should clothe yourselves instead with the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God. This is how the holy women of old made themselves beautiful. They put their trust in God and accepted the authority of their husbands.”
1 Peter 3:3-5 NLT

2. A real courageous mom/woman understands God's design in her life and fully embraces it.

“Who can find a virtuous and capable wife? She is more precious than rubies. Her husband can trust her, and she will greatly enrich his life. She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life. She finds wool and flax and busily spins it.She is like a merchant’s ship, bringing her food from afar. She gets up before dawn to prepare breakfast for her household and plan the day’s work for her servant girls. She goes to inspect a field and buys it; with her earnings she plants a vineyard. She is energetic and strong, a hard worker. She makes sure her dealings are profitable; her lamp burns late into the night. Her hands are busy spinning thread, her fingers twisting fiber. She extends a helping hand to the poor and opens her arms to the needy. She has no fear of winter for her household, for everyone has warm clothes. She makes her own bedspreads. She dresses in fine linen and purple gowns. Her husband is well known at the city gates, where he sits with the other civic leaders. She makes belted linen garments and sashes to sell to the merchants. She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future. When she speaks, her words are wise, and she gives instructions with kindness. She carefully watches everything in her household and suffers nothing from laziness. Her children stand and bless her. Her husband praises her: “There are many virtuous and capable women in the world, but you surpass them all!” Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last; but a woman who fears the Lord will be greatly praised. Reward her for all she has done. Let her deeds publicly declare her praise.”
Proverbs 31:10-31 NLT

A. This proverbs expressed the real strength and courage of a woman/mother who fully understands her calling and embraces it.
B. We can never underestimate the influence of a mother to her children and a wife to her husband. When a strong courageous woman understands her calling and God's design for family her influence is irreplaceable.

3. Remember that God sees you.

“The angel of the Lord found Hagar beside a spring of water in the wilderness, along the
road to Shur. The angel said to her, “Hagar, Sarai’s servant, where have you come from, and where are you going?” “I’m running away from my mistress, Sarai,” she replied. The angel of the Lord said to her, “Return to your mistress, and submit to her authority.”

And the angel also said, “You are now pregnant and will give birth to a son. You are to name him Ishmael (which means ‘God hears’), for the Lord has heard your cry of distress. This son of yours will be a wild man, as untamed as a wild donkey! He will raise his fist against everyone, and everyone will be against him. Yes, he will live in open hostility against all his relatives.” Thereafter, Hagar used another name to refer to the Lord, who had spoken to her. She said, “You are the God who sees me.” She also said, “Have I truly seen theOne who sees me?” So that well was named Beer-lahai-roi (which means “well of the Living One who sees me”). It can still be found between Kadesh and Bered.”
Genesis 16:7-9, 11-14 NLT

A. Hagar was badly mistreated by Sarai. She ran away bitterly and in great distress,God came to her rescue.
B. Even if God has chosen Sarah's son to whom he will create His holy nation, God saw the anguish of Hagar and her love for her child.
C. “When the water was gone, she put the boy in the shade of a bush. Then she went and sat down by herself about a hundred yards away.“I don’t want to watch the boy die,” she said, as she burst into tears. But God heard the boy crying, and the angel of God called to Hagar from heaven, “Hagar, what’s wrong? Do not be afraid! God has heard the boy crying as he lies there. Go to him and comfort him, for I will make a great nation from his descendants.” Then God opened Hagar’s eyes, and she saw a well full of water. She quickly filled her water container and gave the boy a drink.”
Genesis 21:15-19 NLT

Conclusion:
To all our mothers here today, God is "El Roi". He is the god who sees! He sees your hardships, He sees your struggles, He knows your weaknesses. And He will come and rescue you! Be faithful to your calling. Set the bar for your children to follow. Be the example of faith in the family and let God bless your life with the fruit of your obedience seen in the lives of your children!
