Memory Verse:
“O Lord, why do you reject me? Why do you turn your face from me?”
Psalms 88:14 NLT
Introduction:
Welcome to the River of Faith! Today marks the end of our 21 Day Fast and a celebration of God's faithfulness for another year of Spirit-filled prayer and fasting.
One of the most uttered prayers of many people today is the prayer of healing and restoration. This prayer does not only speak of the physicality but most importantly spirituality. Have you ever prayed for God to heal you and restore you? Have you ever prayed that He does something supernatural? The question sometimes is does God still heal? Does He restore today as He did miraculously many times in the pages of the Scriptures? Let's learn today what it means when we utter the words "Father Heal our Land!"
Main Pointers:
“So Solomon finished the Temple of the Lord, as well as the royal palace. He completed everything he had planned to do in the construction of the Temple and the palace. Then one night the Lord appeared to Solomon and said, “I have heard your prayer and have chosen this Temple as the place for making sacrifices. At times I might shut up the heavens so that no rain falls, or command grasshoppers to devour your crops, or send plagues among you. Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land. My eyes will be open and my ears attentive to every prayer made in this place.”
2 Chronicles 7:11-15 NLT
1. God always identifies His people.
A. As we begin to unpack this very powerful verse it is important to establish who God was addressing in this verse. God specifically mentioned "people who are called by My name."
B. This entails people whom God had a covenantal relationship with. In the Old Testament we know these people are Israel and in the New Testament these people are the ones who were the recipients of God's covenant of grace or the people who have put their faith in Jesus Christ.
C. “You hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you, for he wrote, ‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Their worship is a farce, for they teach man-made ideas as commands from God.’ ”
Matthew 15:7-9 NLT
2. God made it clear that there is a condition to His promise.
“Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land. My eyes will be open and my ears attentive to every prayer made in this place.”
2 Chronicles 7:14-15 NLT
A. There are three very important components to a genuine revival and restoration of the land. Many today just choose to ignore it. First is the act of humility and total surrender to God.This means accepting God's complete authority in your life.
B. “All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.”
2 Timothy 3:16-17 NLT
C. Second is the act of prayer and seeking God. This can only happen if the first one is established correctly in your life.
D. Third is the the evidence of the first two. If God's Word is the complete authority and that you seek Him earnestly the result is genuine revival which is turning away from sin.
3. When obedience is met by faith we will experience the promise-keeping God.
“Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land. My eyes will be open and my ears attentive to every prayer made in this place. For I have chosen this Temple and set it apart to be holy—a place where my name will be honored forever. I will always watch over it, for it is dear to my heart.”
2 Chronicles 7:14-16 NLT
A. Many people today even those that think that they know God deliberately ignore God's instructions to us. People today just naturally assume that they will hear from heaven just because they recited a prayer but it's much more than that.
B. To move the heart of God there must be genuine obedience and repentance. Many people today settle with a "spiritualized" and "emotion-led" experience with God as opposed to a genuine move of God where He promised to hear from heaven, forgive our sins, and bring healing and restoration to our land.
C. “In those days when you pray, I will listen. If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me. I will be found by you,” says the Lord. “I will end your captivity and restore your fortunes. I will gather you out of the nations where I sent you and will bring you home again to your own land.”
Jeremiah 29:12-14 NLT
Conclusion:
God has to be the full authority of our lives. His Word is our lamp unto our feet the light that guides our every step. To heal and restore we must first submit and obey. To obey is to turn away from our wicked ways to seek God with all our hearts. To experience a genuine move of God we must do what His Word tells us. Submit, obey, trust in the Lord and turn away from sin! Repeat it every day!
