Memory Verse:
“what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?” Psalms 8:4 NIV

Introduction:

Welcome to the River of Faith! Today we are in week two of our new series called "Intimacy: the language of God."

The word "intimacy" is not explicitly used in the Bible but it is clearly expressed as a description of what our relationship with God should be like. "Intimacy" is defined as "closeness" with God. How is God close to us? Can we know certainly that God is close to us? The Bible tells us that God is not only close but He also knows everything about us.

Main Pointers:
“O Lord, you have examined my heart and know everything about me. You know when I sit down or stand up. You know my thoughts even when I’m far away. You see me when I travel and when I rest at home. You know everything I do. You know what I am going to say even before I say it, Lord. You go before me and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too great for me to understand!”
Psalms 139:1-6 NLT

1. God knows you intimately because He is an intimate god.

A. Our thoughts are the most private and intimate part of our human makeup. No one else can know our thoughts other than when we choose to communicate it to others. Yet, David in this Psalm assured us that God alone knows everything about us.
B. God searches the heart and mind of people that's why He knows those whose hearts are turned towards Him.
C. “But I, the Lord, search all hearts and examine secret motives. I give all people their due rewards, according to what their actions deserve.”
Jeremiah 17:10 NLT

2. God is more closer than you think.

“I can never escape from your Spirit! I can never get away from your presence! If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I go down to the grave, you are there. If I ride the wings of the morning, if I dwell by the farthest oceans, even there your hand will guide me, and your strength will support me. I could ask the darkness to hide me and the light around me to become night— but even in darkness I cannot hide from you. To you the night shines as bright as day. Darkness and light are the same to you.”
Psalms 139:7-12 NLT

A. God is omnipresent, which means that He is everywhere. David here did not only reflect on the omnipresence of God but His desire to be there for us wherever we go.
B. There is no place in God's creation that He is absent. Even in the heavens above or the earth below, all of God's creation declares the greatest of His omnipresence.
C. “And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord."
Romans 8:38-39 NLT

3. God is deeply involved in us.

“You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it. You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand! And when I wake up, you are still with me! O God, if only you would destroy the wicked! Get out of my life, you murderers! They blaspheme you; your enemies misuse your name. O Lord, shouldn’t I hate those who hate you? Shouldn’t I despise those who oppose you? Yes, I hate them with total hatred, for your enemies are my enemies. Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.”
Psalms 139:13-24 NLT

A. Now David turned his meditation to God as his intimate Creator. He expressed how deeply involved and intentional God is in the formation of every single human being conceived in the womb.
B. The image of God "knitting" us in the womb tells of the care, precision, and detail that it takes to create us in the image and likeness of Himself.
C. “No, don’t say that. Who are you, a mere human being, to argue with God? Should the thing that was created say to the one who created it, “Why have you made me like this?”
Romans 9:20 NLT

Conclusion:
There may be times where you feel that God is not close to you. There maybe times that  you feel that God is far away. Those are not true! God is a lot more closer to us than we can ever think. The reason why we don't see this is because of the lack of intimacy with Him. Remember "come close to God and He will come close to you!"
