Opening Verse:
“She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future. When she speaks, her words are wise, and she gives instructions with kindness. She carefully watches everything in her household and suffers nothing from laziness. Her children stand and bless her. Her husband praises her: “There are many virtuous and capable women in the world, but you surpass them all!”
Proverbs 31:25-29 NLT
Introduction:
Welcome to an amazing Sunday here at River of Faith! Today we are honoring our awesome Moms! We want to recognize your special calling and the hard work in raising your families while setting an example to honor God first. Thank you.
Why do we follow our moms? That’s a very good question to ask. The Bible tells us to honor our parents but why do we follow them? Is it because of the example they set? Let’s see what the Bible says about promoting the righteous living that matched our wholesome teaching.
Main Pointers:
“As for you, Titus, promote the kind of living that reflects wholesome teaching. Teach the older men to exercise self-control, to be worthy of respect, and to live wisely. They must have sound faith and be filled with love and patience. Similarly, teach the older women to live in a way that honors God. They must not slander others or be heavy drinkers. Instead, they should teach others what is good.”
Titus 2:1-3 NLT
1. We must promote the kind of living that matches what we believe.
A. Paul in this chapter talks about the importance of promoting righteous living to all believers in every generation of the family.
B. Failure to promote righteous living is counterproductive to our faith. Wholesome teaching without the right living is hypothetical. Which means information with no application.
C. “All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.”
2 Timothy 3:16-17 NLT
2. A good example is hard not to obey.
“These older women must train the younger women to love their husbands and their children, to live wisely and be pure, to work in their homes, to do good, and to be submissive to their husbands. Then they will not bring shame on the word of God. In the same way, encourage the young men to live wisely. And you yourself must be an example to them by doing good works of every kind. Let everything you do reflect the integrity and seriousness of your teaching.”
Titus 2:4-7 NLT
A. Personal mentorship has been a long lost art of this generation. With the rise of the internet and the information highway. Its easier now to say “google it” or “watch youtube” than say, “let me show you!”
B. “You have heard me teach things that have been confirmed by many reliable witnesses. Now teach these truths to other trustworthy people who will be able to pass them on to others.”
2 Timothy 2:2 NLT
3. Teach and obey and they will follow.
“Teach the truth so that your teaching can’t be criticized. Then those who oppose us will be ashamed and have nothing bad to say about us.”
Titus 2:8 NLT
“You must teach these things and encourage the believers to do them. You have the authority to correct them when necessary, so don’t let anyone disregard what you say.”
Titus 2:15 NLT
A. Paul charged Titus with a very important task. Teach and be a good example. That is your life testimony! Real authority is rooted in obedience and living a life that is according to what we believe in.
B. “Don’t be concerned about the outward beauty of fancy hairstyles, expensive jewelry, or beautiful clothes. You should clothe yourselves instead with the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God. This is how the holy women of old made themselves beautiful. They put their trust in God and accepted the authority of their husbands.”
1 Peter 3:3-5 NLT
Conclusion:
To all our mothers here today, we follow you! Not just because you gave life to us but because of the example that you set before us. To all our Mothers here today, don’t ever get tired of teaching, showing, and training us! Don’t ever give up that task to anything else other than your own hands showing us the way and how it’s supposed to be done!
