Introduction:
Welcome to another exciting Sunday here at the River of Faith! Today we are in week three of our series I entitled "Our Core Values." In this series we are going to re-discuss the values that made us who we are as a church! As we have just finished our 21st year anniversary we will continue to revisit these principles that guided us and teach the importance of embodying them in our fellowship and our meetings.

Vision Statement:
A Spirit-empowered church committed to give the people of San Diego the best opportunity to come to Christ and be transformed by His amazing Love.

Mission Statement:
We are committed to invite people to COME to Christ.
We are committed to LIVE according to the Word of God.
We are committed to SHARE the Gospel to the whole world.

Purpose:
Worship, Fellowship, Discipleship, Evangelism, Ministry

Core Values:
Acceptance, Devotion, Accountability, Discipline, and Speaking the truth in Love.

"No Man is an Island!" This old saying couldn't be more true the older we get. We find ourselves wanting to be around people we can trust and can be real with us. The Bible tells us that its going to be more and more difficult to be a Christian that's why we need accountability and real brotherhood in the body of Christ.“ Dear brothers and sisters, if another believer is overcome by some sin, you who are godly should gently and humbly help that person back onto the right path. And be careful not to fall into the same temptation yourself. Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ.”
Galatians 6:1-2 NLT

Main Pointers:

1. Real brotherhood in Christ is about building each other up.

A. Maturity in the Word is the key in godly accountability. Take note "those who are godly" was speaking about those who are mature in the Word of God.
B. “Dear brothers and sisters, when I was with you I couldn’t talk to you as I would to spiritual people. I had to talk as though you belonged to this world or as though you were infants in Christ. I had to feed you with milk, not with solid food, because you weren’t ready for anything stronger. And you still aren’t ready, for you are still controlled by your sinful nature. You are jealous of one another and quarrel with each other. Doesn’t that prove you are controlled by your sinful nature? Aren’t you living like people of the world?”
1 Corinthians 3:1-3 NLT

2. No burden is too heavy when it is dealt with much maturity.

“If you think you are too important to help someone, you are only fooling yourself. You are not that important. Pay careful attention to your own work, for then you will get the satisfaction of a job well done, and you won’t need to compare yourself to anyone else. For we are each responsible for our own conduct.”
Galatians 6:3-5 NLT

A. Maturity among Christians is essential. Fights, quarrels and divisions is not a product of indifferences but a sign of immature Christians who lacks accountability in their walk with God.
B. “Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.”
James 5:16 NLT

3. Maturing Christians does not shun away from accountability they embrace it.

“Don’t be misled—you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant. Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit. So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone— especially to those in the family of faith.”
Galatians 6:7-10 NLT

A. The struggle with the flesh is real. A true follower of Christ know this and intentionally seeks godly partnerships and accountability. Only non growing Christians avoid accountability because they are stuck in their old ways and don't want to change it.
B. “No discipline is enjoyable while it is happening—it’s painful! But afterward there will be a peaceful harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way."
Hebrews 12:11 NLT

Conclusion:
The word "accountability" sometimes is used very loosely in the Christian realm. Many would agree and say that they subscribed to it but when the time calls for it are you teachable? Can you handle correction? Do you allow people in your life to speak the truth to you without being offended or hurt? Accountability is not for the weak of the hearts. It's for genuine followers of Jesus who seeks genuine change and transformation.
