Colossians 3:18-25

Memory Verse:
“For in six days the LORD made the heavens, the earth, the sea, and everything in them; but on the seventh day he rested. That is why the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and set it apart as holy. “Honor your father and mother. Then you will live a long, full life in the land the LORD your God is giving you.”
Exodus 20:11-12 NLT
Introduction:
Welcome to another exciting Sunday here at the River of Faith! Today we are in part two of our Series I entitled "Home Values." As we have just finished talking about the core values that made our church who we are, we are now going to talk about the Biblical Values that should make our homes stronger and deeply founded on the Word of God.
How many of you here knows how to juggle? Do you know that the earliest mentions of jugglers can be traced back to ancient Egypt? Jugglers became famous for their circus acts and performances by balancing multiple items at one time. The problem with juggling is nothing stays on top for too long and once you get distracted the whole things falls apart. Say the word "priority", this word simply is synonymous with the word "important." Today I would like to speak to you about God's priorities, or I'd like to call God's chain of care. The Christian Home is always the priority!
“Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony. And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful.” Colossians 3:12-15 NLT
Main Pointers:
1. Strong homes don't compromise the foundations.
A. There are parts of the house that are non-negotiable. Sometimes I think we forget that we are Christians which means that God had called us to act as His holy and righteous people. These things should be most expressed as solid foundations of our homes.
B. “For no one can lay any foundation other than the one we already have—Jesus Christ. Anyone who builds on that foundation may use a variety of materials—gold, silver, jewels, wood, hay, or straw. But on the judgment day, fire will reveal what kind of work each builder has done. The fire will show if a person’s work has any value.”
1 Corinthians 3:11-13 NLT
2. Only follow God's chain of priorities.
“Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting for those who belong to the Lord. Husbands, love your wives and never treat them harshly. Children, always obey your parents, for this pleases the Lord. Fathers, do not aggravate your children, or they will become discouraged. Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything you do. Try to please them all the time, not just when they are watching you. Serve them sincerely because of your reverent fear of the Lord. Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Remember that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward, and that the. Master you are serving is Christ.”
Colossians 3:18-24 NLT
A. Every time the Scripture speaks about God's chain of care it's always in this order (Ep. 5-6. 1 Pe, 1 Cor.). The foundation begins with the relationship of a husband and wife, if that relationship glorifies God it will flow to the next one which is the children and if that is also taken care of it will overflow all the way to the working place.
B. “Unless the LORD builds a house, the work of the builders is wasted. Unless the LORD protects a city, guarding it with sentries will do no good. It is useless for you to work so hard from early morning until late at night, anxiously working for food to eat; for God gives rest to his loved ones. Children are a gift from the LORD; they are a reward from him.”
Psalms 127:1-3 NLT
3. Order comes when we choose to do it God's way.
“Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children. Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God. Let there be no sexual immorality, impurity, or greed among you. Such sins have no place among God’s people. Obscene stories, foolish talk, and coarse jokes—these are not for you. Instead, let there be thankfulness to God. You can be sure that no immoral, impure, or greedy person will inherit the Kingdom of Christ and of God. For a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world.”
Ephesians 5:1-5 NLT
“Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts. And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. And further, submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.” Ephesians 5:18-21 NLT
A. Why do you think there is a big attack on the Biblical definition of the family? Some say its controversial to speak about these things but the reality is its only controversial because it is Biblical. The moment we try to juggle the order of these things is the moment the whole thing collapses. The strength of the Christian Home lies within the chain of God's care because He already laid it was before us.
B. “A kingdom divided by civil war will collapse. Similarly, a family splintered by feuding will fall apart. And if Satan is divided and fights against himself, how can he stand? He would never survive. Let me illustrate this further. Who is powerful enough to enter the house of a strong man and plunder his goods? Only someone even stronger—someone who could tie him up and then plunder his house.”
Mark 3:24-27 NLT
Conclusion:
There is much needed revival that needs to take place in our homes today. It will all start once we go back to the Biblical principles that made our homes strong and secure. God already taught us what our priorities should look like. We keep on ignoring it then wondered why our homes are so weak and fragile. God back to honoring God's chain of care. Stop juggling you can only hold for a short period of time.
